Day 12 Belorado to Atepuerca: 20 miles ( 47,000 steps)

Out early again today as we knew it would be a long day, in fact we were in the trail 11 hours, our longest day yet! It actually rained a little on us this morning but before long the sun was out and it was 80 degrees. Luckily we were often treated with the shade of a pine forest.

more sunflowers We reached the top of our highest peak where there is a memorial for the 300 people who were executed by shotgun during the Spanish civil war in 1936.

There was a 12 km stretch of the path that provided no services. These signs in the road let us know we were on the right path.

This gentleman set up a donativo trail magic with chairs, just what we needed. He was entertaining , funny and we bought a banana from him. (Unfortunately he was all out of watermelon)😥

I didn’t take as many photos today mostly due to darkness, rain and really not a lot of views.

Tomorrow we arrive in Burgos (only 12 miles however our alburge hosts will explain a prettier walk along the river into Burgos tonight at our pilgrims dinner so it may be longer).

In Burgos we will treat ourselves to our second rest day, we are looking forward to visiting the Cathedral.

Buen Camino!
