Day 13 Atapuerca to Burgos -13 miles (29,500 steps).

We left Atapuerca today just before dawn so we could see the sunrise. It was spectacular. The hike out of town was quite treacherous for the first 2.5 km until we reached the Matagrande ridge of the Sierra de Atapuerca.

Cross at the Matagrande ridge.

Just like home🤣

Trail markers along the way and a cool picture on a barn.

Crocuses growing in the rocks on the hillside, in España they bloom in the fall.

Other flowers along the route, I especially enjoyed the sunflower!🌻I had to walk off the trail a little to get this picture but it was worth it.

This sign is saying something about the view in Navarra Spain being more beautiful now. (Still working on my Spanish).

We did find the trail along the river and it was a beautiful walk into Burgos! A huge shout out to our hostess last night and for Amy adjusting our route on her far out map… it was a lovely day.

Our lovely friends from the alburge and another phenomenal pilgrim dinner.

Drinks tonight with our friends Aurelia and Sandra.

Bookstore!! Yay!

Tomorrow a rest day here in Burgos, we plan to go to mass at the cathedral and will post pics from the tour of the museum of human evolution. We actually walked through some of the area where the dig sites are and where they have found some of the oldest human remains. Excited to share!

Good night and Buen Camino!
