Day 2 - we finish the climb over the Pyrenees and arrive in España!
Beautiful sunrise as we ate our pilgrim breakfast this morning. We were on the trail by 8 am to begin our hike up the rest of the French Pyrenees. The elevation was the same as yesterday but a little more gradual, however we were dealing with 30 mile per hour winds ( head winds for the most part) making it very treacherous, we took our time and arrived in Roncesvalles Spain around 2:45. We checked into our hotel and did our usual Camino routine…. Shower, wash our clothes, sit on the terrace and have a glass of wine. At 6 pm we attended the pilgrims mass which was very moving. At the end of the mass the priest invites all pilgrims to the front of the alter and he gives us a special blessing.. it was very heart warming.
We met even more Camino family today, so far we have new friends from Germany, South Africa, Ireland, England, Australia, Canada and Sweden, and of course the United States (NY, WI, TN, CA, TX, ME,). All in all we are doing great having finished the toughest part of the first leg of this journey.
Sunrise over the Pyrenees.

The Virgin Mary statue on the trail and me placing a rosary just beneath her feet.

Horses along the way and a picture of our new friend Sandra from Australia.

Welcome to Spain!
