Day 22 - We are in Leon!! Final rest day before we finish in Santiago de Compestella
I can’t believe that 2 weeks from today we will walk into Santiago de Compestella! We took our time this morning to get started as it was a short day for us. It was still only about 40 degrees when we started and we were so grateful that we found gloves last night.🥶 side note: this little market where we found the gloves…reminded me of the Diagonal alley in the Harry Potter books , it was dark and he kept going in the back to get a box with what we asked for lol! This is also where we bought the Spanish cards!
After a lovely breakfast we headed out towards Leon, it warmed up quickly and we met a lot of Camino friends we had not seen in a while.
This beautiful monument depicting tired pilgrims was so “spot on” for us. We are ready for our rest day on Leon.

We came across this lovely “oasis” on our walk today, a lovely rest stop with cool souvenirs which we are not quite ready to buy cause we have to carry them🙃.

We entered the beautiful medieval city of Leon. These ancient walls were built by the Romans thousands of years ago!

Beautiful fountain and statue in Leon.

The Basilica de San Isidoro!

We stopped for a glass of wine and were treated to these tapas, the other picture is the fresh fish counter at the local supermacado where we shopped for our dinner we hosting tonight.
I will never take a washing machine for granted. Our apartment has one and we will get our clothes very clean!!
We cooked dinner for 5 friends, pasta and a sauce with meatballs and sausage. Friends brought bread, cheese, wine and ice cream!!
we have a lot of leftovers 🤪
Doing dishes and cleaning up after dinner. Left to right : Aurelia, Deb, Amy, Sandra, and Becky. Photo is missing Doug and Elena as they wanted to get to mass at 7:30!
Tomorrow we explore this wonderful city, we will go to a pilgrims mass at the cathedral, do a city tour, meet up with our friends from Maine and do a tapas crawl!
Buen Camino!
