Day 23 - Rest day in the beautiful city of Leon!
This beautiful gothic city has been just simply amazing. We started our day with mass at this stunning cathedral.
The weather is cool but pleasant.

Santa María de Regla de León Cathedral is a Catholic church, consecrated in the 13 th century under the name of the blessed virgin Mary. It was the first monument declared by the Royal order of Spain in 1844.
Initiated in the 13th century, it is one of the greatest works of the gothic style, with French influences. Also known as the Pulchra Leonina, which means ‘Beautiful Leonese’, it is located on the Way of Saint James, the Camino de Santiago.
The León Cathedral is mostly known for taking the “dematerialization” of gothic art to the extreme, that is, the reduction of the walls to their minimum expression to be replaced by stained glass, constituting one of the largest collections of medieval stained glass in the world.

The daughter of the mayor of Leon was getting married today in the cathedral, there was a royal declaration that we witnessed before she arrived.
We spent the afternoon with our friend Lynn from Biddeford Maine exploring the city. We stopped along the way for wine and tapas and took in the sites.

This city was so much fun, lots to see.
We have seen this lovely couple almost every day and they lift my spirits when we walk together. Calle and Yadrielle from Texas. They have actually been in Europe since February doing odd jobs and now they are walking the Camino de Santiago. After that they will go to Portugal and work with a sheep farmer. They are the coolest couple!!!
The left foot of the Roman legion. All along the streets here in Leon are ancient foot steps. Roman shoulders always marched starting with the left foot.
These are the feet of weary pilgrims on a rest day!🤣🤣

We ended our day with a beautiful Pilgrims mass at the Basilica san Isidoro! it was magnificent. we are now back at the apartment eating supper, I plan to join my book club girls before bed, tomorrow we are on to Villadangos.
Buen Camino!
