Day 1 hiking over the French Pyrenees.

We had a beautiful day hiking, Blue skies and puffy white clouds. We set out at 9 am to begin our Camino. We hiked 4.5 miles to Orrisson where we stopped for a much needed rest and lunch. Then upward another 0.6 miles to our alburge Borda. It was an amazing day but quite challenging. Elevation today was only 3000 feet but it seemed like more.

This has been a bucket list item for Becky for several years.. We have arrived in France

We have arrived in St Jean Pied de Port, France! What a long 28 hours of travel with very little sleep…. 3 hour drive to Boston Logan airport. 6 hour flight from Boston to Madrid. 1/2 hour taxi ride to Madrid Train station. 2 hour wait for our train. 1 and 1/2 hour train ride to Zaragoza with only a few minutes to run ( or in our case walking very fast) to our connecting, only to get there and find it is delayed …phew! Next up a 2 hour train ride to Pamplona. Lastly an hour and a half taxi ride from Pamplona Spain to St Jean France… it was amazing as our driver kept pointing out the trail as we past it … “Look, El Camino!”🤣 We settled in our room, showered and washed our clothes then went to dinner and found some interesting wine to drink together. All in all we are tired but very excited for our hike to start on Friday. Our first comino family we met at the airport in Boston, they are from Biddeford Maine!!
