Day 27 Rabanal del Camino to Molinaseca 17 miles (36,000 steps) and of course the Cruz de Ferro!

Today we climbed Monte Irago where you will find the Cruz de Ferro. Elevation 15000 meters. A very significant part of the Camino. This is where pilgrims have an opportunity to lay down their burdens, a poignant ritual. Most lay a rock from home or any other symbolic object to help them relieve their burdens.

This is a picture of me laying my stone for Julia, along with the bracelet I wore since she was diagnosed with cancer. This was a very emotional day for me and bless Amy, she knew I needed the time alone to reflect and cry most of the way down the hill.

We left early again as we knew it would be a long day. Here are pictures of the sunrise and this cute little town where we got our first cafe con leche of the day.

I took a lot of pictures today of the landscape, believe it or not, we are so happy to be back in the mountains. The ups and downs are easy now as we are stronger, however we did find today’s downhill challenging at times.

Just to give you an idea of the terrain we walked for approximately 19 km or over 11 miles. It was rough at times on the knees and feet but we made it!!!

we ended up meeting with Deb again and walked the entire way from El Acebo into Molinaseca

this is the town we got the watermelon and heard the singing, go to my Facebook for a live view!Entering Molinaseca finally, our feet are so tired!

We met up for dinner tonight with several friends we have met along the way. Left to right from me: Deb, Marisol, Yabriel, Calle, Kevin , Lynn and Amy.

Another long day tomorrow so bed early,

Buen Camino!
