Day 30 Las Herrerías to Triacastela 9 miles (18,000 steps)

Today we climbed O Cebreiro! It was a long steady climb but we managed without any problems. Until it started to rain 🥹yes this was actually the first day I have put on my rain coat!!

We started out just before sunrise, eating a lovely breakfast at our hostel, we never had to turn on our headlights. We walked again today with Sandra, Aurelia and Colin. We also met up with Calle and Yadriel.

The weather quickly became humid and we were peeling our layers. Our first stop was La Faba where we were entertained by goats and I had the best glass of fresh orange juice! ( go to my facebook page for videos)!

The trail was amazing even though we were climbing to over 1350 meters (4,430 feet) above sea level.

As we ascended to the top it was very foggy and misty, there was even a rainbow. The trail quickly became quite wet and slippery.

We continued on the way, our destination is not far.

As we entered the village of O Cebreiro we were met with bagpipes. It was so amazing. I will post a video in my facebook page.

The first place we stopped was the the cathedral Inglesia de Santa Maria. We got a beautiful stamp and I lit a candle in honor of Julia.

Julia’s candle ❤️❤️❤️

In O Cebreiro they have these tiny houses that look like hobbit houses. One of them is on display and you can enter and look at how they lived thousands of years ago.

As we continued on our way the rain really started to come down. When we reached the town of Linares we made an important decision and shared a cab down the rest of the mountain with 3 other pilgrims. The trail and rocks were very slippery. We feel it is about the journey and not the steps. The last thing we need is an injury before we reach our destination in one week. Amy and I talked about this last night when we saw the weather forecast and we planned on it of the weather got bad. It was the right decision and we have no regrets.

Tonight we had our first taste of pedron peppers and Galicia broth, both were amazing and paired with the fresh tomato salad it was just what we needed to end our day. We head to Sarria tomorrow and complete the final leg of this wonderful journey. In Sarria is where Julia was going to join me 2 Years ago when I first planned this trip. I have brought some of her ashes and will start to leave them along the way.

Buen Camino!❤️
