Day 32 Sarria to Portamarin 15 miles (33,500 steps)

We arrived in Portamarin today, it didn’t take long when we left Sarria before the Camino become very busy. Sarria to Santiago is the most popular route and it seemed as though there were 5 times the number of pilgrims. As we were leaving I was able to get a picture of the beautiful medieval Ponte Áspera bridge. It came out pretty well in the dark. The morning was foggy and misty making for a couple cool pictures.

This was the first spot I found to leave some of Julia’s ashes. It felt really good to do that, I know in my heart she is happy for me.

We traveled through beautiful farm towns today, it was lovely even with all the noise of the increased traffic.

This is the second and third place I left some ashes. It’s bringing me such joy to do this.

Today we crossed the 100 km marker. Actually as we sit here tonight in our room we only have 92 km left. We are on track to finish early on Friday!

As you enter Portomarin you have to cross this long bridge and because of this seasons drought you can actually see the ancient ruins of the city that was flooded when the dam was built.

The other thing you do is climb these very steep stairs. I couldn’t look behind me or even up, I just kept my head down. So did Amy! I don’t mind saying it was a little uncomfortable.

Loved this sign!

As we climbed towards our hostel I found one more spot to leave ashes. Amy asked permission before taking any pictures.

Exploring Portomarin after dinner.

Desert! Coffee ice cream 😋

Tomorrow we walk to Palas de Rei!

Buen Camino!
